2016 : RESIDENCY APPLICATIONS ARE NOW CLOSED. PLEASE SEE NOTICE.

The Good Hatchery is an experimental project that sets out to challenge the accepted norms for the production and presentation of contemporary art in Ireland today. We are committed to the support of artists in the production of high quality progressive art works. We promote an ethos of DIY and sustainability that takes advantage the spread of information and online learning opportunities enabled by our global age.

To this end, the Good Hatchery operates an ongoing series of residencies and projects throughout the year. Through invitation and open call, artists and other cultural practitioners are selected to be involved in the Good Hatchery curatorial programme. In addition to this, unsolicited proposals for residencies and on site projects are accepted from individuals and groups. The Good Hatchery offers all of its its facilities free of charge to successful applicants. All participants in briefed and un-briefed projects are chosen by the administrators and board of members. We are particularly interested in unusual and experimental projects, in projects that find it difficult to be given space or time and in collaborative group proposals.

If you would like to be notified of upcoming residencies and project calls please join our mailing list by emailing thegoodhatchery@gmail.com

If you would like to submit a self directed proposal please email the following to thegoodhatchery@gmail.com :

Enquiries about proposals are welcome.

Please note that part of the ethos of The Good Hatchery is that it operates on a system of exchange between artists that does not involve any economic input on their part. As such resident artists contribute to the general maintenance, development and upkeep of the building during their stay, in what ever manner they see fit. The Good Hatchery has one double, one single and one twin bed room. The Good Hatchery building is not yet suitable for artists with disabilites or young children. As it is located in a remote and fascinating part of North Offaly, transport is of great benefit.
